Hello All! My name is Ashley Sockpick, eskimo name, Panichuinaq, and I’ll be the new Brownfields Coordinator, as of October 2011.

A Little about Me:

I grew up in the Bering Straits region, spending my school years in Nome, AK and my summers in Golovin, AK. I lived and still live a very subsistence lifestyle. I am currently learning about the native plants and animals here in Kodiak, AK so that I may continue to preserve the lifestyle.

I attended school in Durango, CO and have yet to finish my degree. I am attending online classes through University of Alaska, Fairbanks to work towards fulfilling my dream to have a biology degree with health/environment in mind.

I care a lot about our native lands and I am happy to be in a position where I can actively restore and preserve them.

In the Brownfields position I will move forward in recognizing potential brownfields in the Koniag Region and maintaining the our current proposals. I will also be attending training so that I may expand our Tribal Response Program.

Quyanna,

Ashley Sockpick

C’amai Brownfields colleague and friends,

I wanted to let you all know that I recently accepted a position with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service at the Kodiak Wildlife Refuge as Volunteer Coordinator, and I will be resigning as the Woody Island Brownfields Program Manager.  I have enjoyed working with all of you, and hope to ensure a smooth transition to a new Brownfields staff person.  However, it is very likely that the position will be vacant for at least a few weeks; in the interim, please contact one of the following staff with questions:

Lynda Lorenson, Environmental Director: lynda@woodyisland.com

Melissa Berns, Tribal Administrator: village@alaska.com

Mike Patterson, Peer Assistance Network Coordinator (regional IGAP): mike@woodyisland.com

The new Brownfields staff will update their contact information on this site when they join the program.

I will still be in Kodiak, of course, and would love to keep in touch.   My last day with Woody Island will be May 6; I will be working to finalize projects in process over the next week, so don’t hesitate to call if you have concerns.  It has been a pleasure to be part of the Alaska Brownfields “family” and to work with members of the Kodiak Tribal and environmental community – if you are by the Refuge Visitor’s Center, please stop in and say hi!

All the best,

Lisa Hupp
